Improving symptoms and preventing complications

Treatment will differ depending on both the type of amyloidosis and the patient’s symptoms. Each treatment aims to:

• Relieve symptoms throughout the course of the illness. The concern here is symptomatic treatment.

• Prevent and/or slow down amyloid deposition. This involves disease-modifying drugs. Treatments are completely different for each type of amyloidosis.

• Slow the progression of and/or prevent symptoms throughout the course of the illness.
